Wilbur is now Pierre!

  • What mood am I in? A hungry mood!
  • What else am I doing? Watching the 3rd series of 'Oz" on DVD
  • What am I eating? Hmmm... think I might make some fish cakes...

Number 1 pup is probably going to our friends from Kabova Pugs, (their Peke Kurzon is the daddy), and they would like to name him Jean Luc. We're thinking Ceedacharmin Enterprise for the show name.

For the others, we were going for the 'perfume theme, but Wilbur didn't quite fit. So he is going to be Ceedacharmin PierreCardin (no space as there are silly rules about the number of letters allowed). Pierre will be his pet name. He is doing better today, so someone's had their fingers crossed!

The other one, which was the surprise 4th pup, is still Hugo. His registered name will be Ceedacharmin Hugo Boss.

Here is a pic of the three of them: Jean Luc is at the top. He was the first born. Little Pierre is in the middle. You can see that he's only half the size of his brothers. Hugo, the 4th born, is at the bottom.

Bedmaking

  • What mood am I in? Starts with 'T'
  • What else am I doing? Organising the pups into bed!
  • What am I eating? Nothing!
  • Actual time of posting? 2:44 AM!!!!
Apropos of my YIM conversation with Cel, Bedmaking is just one of those chores that don't make sense. Really, what is the point?

I understand that it's nice when people come to your house, they can come to a presentable, more or less clean space and have a coffee or tea or whatever. I understand that if the doorbell rings, it would be nice if everyone didn't have to hold their breath and stay away from the windows in case it's someone you have to invite inside. I understand that it would be good if we didn't have to pretend we're out if the phone rings and someone wants to 'pop in'. (Don't you hate 'pop in' people? We need at least 3 hours warning before someone 'pops in'. 6 if we're going to squeeze in a nap beforehand).

Anyway, I digress... bedmaking. THERE IS NO POINT! Who goes in there to check if the bed has been made or not? Sheesh! NO ONE, that's who! And, really, if no-one's going to see it, WHAT'S THE POINT?

Our bed linen currently consists of this: One 'sand', (why don't they just say 'really light brown?!), coloured fitted sheet. On my side: One queen sized royal purple cotton sheet, one mauve single sized cotton 'cell' blanket- like the type they use in hospitals. On Deanna's side, she had a 'sand' queen sized sheet- currently misplaced- probably under the mattress or something- and she has a single sized feather quilt. I saw her mauve cotton cell blanket is on top of the extra dirty clothes storage facility glory box at the foot of the bed this morning.

You see, we have non-compatible bedlinen requirements. I get extremely hot during the night and revoltingly sweaty due to my body's lack of temperature regulatory mechanism. Deanna sometimes has to build a barricade with the sheets so she doesn't get swamped. Feathers and I just don't mix either. She LOVES feathers. Has them in her pillow and quilt. Hell, she'd probably have a feather mattress if she could.

Deanna will NOT have white bedsheets (her parents ONLY EVER had white bedsheets, therefore she has spent her adult life buying anything BUT white sheets. My absolute favourite sheets are white, 'Hotel Quality' sheets from Holy Sheet! I purchased these for my *other* bed and I am very excited about them... even though the bed I wanted from IKEA was  'temporarily  oversold', (oversold, my ass! underpurchased is more like it!), thus meaning I have the bedlinen, but no bed!

Anyway, I am going now to my unmade, unmatched, dog-hair covered bed.

Keep those fingers crossed!

  • What mood am I in? Tired but about to have a nap!
  • What else am I doing? Kath & Kim Still
  • What am I eating? Had a Lite'n'easy Dinner! Was Yum!

Wilbur has come home from the Vet in much better shape than when he went in. He even came home and had a feed from mum! We'll feed him from mum 2 hourly overnight and see how he is in the morning. If he doesn't start putting on weight, he'll have to be tube fed, but we won't go there just yet!

His show name is: Ceedacharmin Mr Ed (Pet name Wilbur) The 1st born is: Ceedacharmin CalvinKlein (Pet name Calvin) and the 4th one is: Ceedacharmin Hugo Boss (Pet name Hugo).

If we keep one, it will probably be Hugo. See how he goes in the show ring!

The other little one (who is now known as Wilbur) isn't doing so well. He's NOT in pain or anything, but my have the dreaded 'Fading Puppy Syndrome'. He just doesn't suckle, is not interested in food, sleeps all the time, etc. This morning, when he was put on the nipple, he started gasping and struggling for breath. We rushed him down to the vet (luckily they are only 2 minutes away) and they think he may have aspirated some milk. ie: milk went in his lungs. They drew some liquid out with a syringe, gave him some antibiotics and some oxygen. He's been there for most of the day. I phoned about 20 minutes ago and they said he's doing much better and to ring back at 4pm and pick him up if everythings OK. Cross everything for us!

Occasionally I get unsolicited messages on my Yahoo Instant Messenger thing. Usually it's some idiot saying: 'hello' or 'hi', which I completely ignore, because really, that is just soooooo a waste of my time. So anyway, I am working away here, minding my own business, when I get this message from 'x' who shall be known forthwith as 'SillyGirl'. The first message said "helo". The second said "hello". The third went like this:

SillyGirl: My pug is 4 years old

Chris : oh... have you been to visit Ozpugs?

SillyGirl: nope not yet

Chris : It's a good site:   www.ozpugs.com
A forum for pug owners... I thought that's where you might have got my YIM name from?

SillyGirl: wno [sic] went to yahoo and searched for pug

SillyGirl: i just got my pug the day after thanksgiving

Chris : Wow...you must be in America then, by the sounds of that! When is thanksgiving? Is your pug a boy or girl? Puppy or adult?

SillyGirl: girl, she's 4 years old

Chris : Oh, sorry, you already said that!

Chris : What's her name?

SillyGirl: [Name removed to protect the innocent]

Chris : Cute! Have you had a pug before? Is she a 'rescue' ?

SillyGirl: one sec brb

SillyGirl: sorry phone call

SillyGirl: never had a pug before

Chris : They take a bit of getting used to! They can be rather naughty and stubborn- but are completely loyal!

SillyGirl: not a rescue, i was looking around for pugs and just came across this one gentleman who was looking for a good home for his pug, he had a bunch of pugs and wanted a good home for her

Chris : Oh... was he a breeder? Sometimes breeders who show need to find homes for the one's who have retired from the show ring...

SillyGirl: he was a breeder

SillyGirl: and she is possible pregnant now

SillyGirl: lol if she is he wants one

Chris : Really?

SillyGirl: it would be his male

Chris : Make sure you are prepared to have a caesarian (lots of $$$) and about 4 weeks off FULL TIME to care for the pups, AND not much sleep during that time...pugs are notoriously bad mothers...

SillyGirl: she is a really good momma

SillyGirl: she hasn't had a litter in 3 cycles

Chris : Is she registered with the canine council (or your equivalent?)

SillyGirl: yes she is

SillyGirl: so is the male

Chris : Is she going back to the breeder to whelp?

SillyGirl: nope

Chris : Wow.

SillyGirl: breeder was 5 and a half hours away

Chris : And if he doesn't know if she's pregnant... he probably doesn't know the mating dates, either....

SillyGirl: nope

SillyGirl: but know approximates

Chris : Not very responsible for a breeder!

SillyGirl: he said it wasn't likely, but i've been to a few breeders houses and he's alot more responsible than the others i've seen, he has all of them in the house, and lots of attention and love

Chris : I guess so. Just hear soooooo many stories of 'backyard breeders' who don't do the right thing.... and just becasue he has them in the house doesn't mean he is a good breeder.... I am not saying that he's not either, he might be a very ethical breeder, BUT, to sell a 4 y.o bitch that 'may be pregnant' to someone with no experience in whelping (especially pugs, or brachycephalic breeds), and to not even know if she has mated (why were an undesexed male an female housed together?), really smacks of 'backyard breeding' to me. Sorry, but it's just my opinion and Backyard Breeders make my blood boil- there are WAY TOO MANY unwanted dogs in the world and people who breed dogs willy-nilly and irresponsibly only add to the problem. Just go to any 'dog rescue' site and look. Breaks your heart.

SillyGirl: i've done a lot of research on this and I am prepared for whatever the situation may be.  My fiancee's mother has knows about the whole thing, I've actually heard alot of good about the breeder.

SillyGirl: and he gave her to me for free, and told me to let me know on anything she needs

SillyGirl: for christmas he sent her medicine for fleas

Chris : Hmmmmm..... OK.... I think that is just helping my argument against him. No matter. What's done is done. I just hope to whoever that you don't perpetuate the Backyard Breeder cycle. But it seems like you are going to.

Medication for fleas? She came with fleas? Sheesh. It gets worse. What about heartworm, general worm treatment, rabies shots, annual vaccinations, and any UNFORSEEN health problems? One of ours scratched her eye on a bush and it cost over $1 000 to fix it!!! Please, do the right thing and have her desexed!

End of conversation. She was obviously unwilling to hear my message!

I hate this part of breeding...

  • What mood am I in? Just sad
  • What else am I doing? Nothing at all
  • What am I eating? Just had a lemon lamington
  • Actual time of posting? 8:45 pm

We had one of our pups put to sleep this morning. It had not been suckling and we tried bottle feeding, then tube feeding, but the poor little thing was in agony- just crying and screaming most of the time. It was just too cruel to let him go through another night like that in the hope that he would miraculously 'recover'. Sometimes, you just don't know- and will never know- what's wrong with them. All you can do is give it your best shot, and when the suffering gets too great, let them go.

I really really really hate this part of it. It's just too goddamn sad.

Now Nikki (the mum) is not eating. Not even her favourite BBQ chicken. Now *that's* worrying. Will keep you posted.

I am a bad, bad person...

  • What mood am I in? Feeling Guilty.

  • What am I eating? Just a cup of Tea ATM

OK, so y'all remember way back before Christmas when I mentioned that I wanted a new digital camera for Christmas? (Well, maybe I didn't mention it then, but consider it mentioned now).

Well, with all the pre-Christmas relationship psychodrama issues, it seemed that it was not going to happen.

To cut a long story short, Deanna produced from her study a box containing a BRAND SPANKING NEW Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. This may not mean a whole lot to some of you, but it's a bloody shit-hot camera, right?

So... what do we do? Proceed to have a fight about it!

Deanna said "It's not your camera, it's for all of us" and I said "Ohhhh. Can we just say it's mine and pretend?". Then it was on for young and old. Except the young quickly and sensibly disappeared into her bedroom while the old stayed to 'discuss' the issues.

My point of view? I wanted the camera, I asked for it. So it's like, "Here's your present, but it's not really yours, it's for everyone". When we got our first two camera's, (in about 1999), the SLR became 'Deanna's' and the Digital became 'mine'. The digital, due to fucking warp speed rapid advances in technology, now needs updating. Thus, my request for a new one. I am the one that uses the digital ALL the time, and I keep the photo's organised on my computer, download them, upload them, generally bugger around with them as much as I can without the program I'd sell my soul for PHOTOSHOP and basically, I am the DIGITAL QUEEN in our house, OK?

Her point of view (as seen by me.... hee hee): I am selfish and unappreciative and ungrateful and basically selfish and ungrateful and unappreciative. Get the picture?

OK. So *coughahemcough* maybe I am. A bit. Selfish. And Ungrateful. And Unappreciative.

Got to get off my gi-normous ass and go do something

  • What mood am I in? A bit cranky at myself for wasting yet *another* day!
  • What else am I doing? Just looking after the bubbas!
  • What am I eating? Custard Danish

I have been online since I dropped Genevieve over to her friend's place at Midday. It's now a quarter to nine at night!

I have done ABSOLUTELY nothing! I had such good intentions, too.

I have, however, put some pics of me on my website. If you can find them, you can see them!

I am a little bit worried about one of the little pups. He seems like he has a pain in his belly or something like that. He drinks, but not very much, then falls asleep. I think I will have to take him to the Vet tomorrow if he is still not 'right'.

  • What mood am I in? Got that 'sandpaper eyes' feeling...
  • What else am I doing? Still watching 'Mr Bean'...
  • What am I eating? Nothing!!!
  • Actual time of posting? 4:23 AM !!!

Done it again. It's 20 past 4 AM. Deanna *and* Genevieve are going out tomorrow (not together) and I need to be awake responsible  to look after the puppies! Goodness. That was a bad move. I am sure I should not be allowed to be looking after living things. Apparently I need to drive Genevieve to her friend's place at Midday. Sheesh.
